Officials and police in both Westchester and Putnam Counties issued the warnings on social media ahead of a storm predicted to arrive in the region on Saturday evening, Jan. 6, and continue into Sunday, Jan. 7.
As of Friday morning, Jan. 5, the storm was predicted to bring around 8 inches or more to Westchester and Putnam, according to the National Weather Service.
The threat of snow prompted organizations such as the North Castle Police Department to remind residents that parking cars on public roadways in the town between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. is prohibited through Monday, April 1.
"Please keep your vehicles off of the roadways in order to allow the Highway Department to better clear the roads in the event of snow storms," the department said adding, "Vehicles parked on the roadways during this time are subject to receiving a parking violation summons, and also could be towed if impeding snow removal operations."
The department also encouraged residents to shovel around fire hydrants and keep them clearly visible to fire departments.
Similarly, Croton-on-Hudson village officials reminded residents that they have 12 hours after the end of the storm to clear any sidewalks adjourning their property.
Additionally, both Croton-on-Hudson and Ardsley village officials also said residents can sign up for emergency alerts during the storm by clicking here (Croton) or texting “ArdsleyAlert” (no spaces) to 888777 (Ardsley).
In Putnam, the Carmel Police Department assured residents that crews would be busy keeping roads clear for emergency vehicles and essential travel during the storm.
"Now is the time to prepare," the department said in a social media post on Friday, adding, "We had a very light winter last year. Make sure your supplies and equipment are in order to deal with the storm. Plan travel around the storm and stay off the roads during heavy snowfall."
A Winter Storm Watch for Westchester and Putnam goes into effect at 6 p.m. on Saturday and lasts through 7 p.m. on Sunday. The exact total of snowfall is still uncertain as weather officials continue monitoring the exact path the storm will take.
